We need to fix our feedback loops
Feedback loops are the dominant forces in modern society, but our tightest feedback loops are destroying us.
Compound growth dominates everything else in the long run, and tighter feedback loops result in faster compounding. This is why feedback loops are the most important forces in modern society.
Here’s a short list of feedback loops ordered from tight to loose:
Social media
Gaming
Employment
Exercise
Sharing code
Publishing papers
Investing in companies
Starting a company
Sadly, the order of this list is inversely correlated to the socially optimal order. For example, social media is actively destructive, and more entrepreneurship would be hugely beneficial.
We need to invert this list. I’m working on making the coding feedback loop tighter (Lembrary). Please reach out if you have other ideas for fixing our feedback loops.
